I built my first 3D printer shortly after seeing a lecture about the work on Reprap Darwin.
I still have the first Reprap part printed on a Makerbot.
I never had a problem with PTFE break down, maybe because I didn't use heater blocks.

Surly if it has three blades it's not a dagger but a knife, as daggers have direction of slashing. Stiletto knives often have three edges so they can deliver more force when poking Italians in renaissance armour without fear of the blade snapping.

The Makerbot replicator 2 uses bushing made from brass tubing placed over cold rolled steel rod. Very poor quality, lots of chatter. It didn't even save much money over a real liner bearing that costs about a dollar.
