These are the first in vivo findings showing ACC metabolic dysfunction in pwMS. This could inform therapeutic intervention aimed at regulating energy metabolism and ultimately, alleviating MS fatigue.

We are also the first to demonstrate that state perceived fatigue develops at a faster rate in pwMS during exercise compared to controls. This will be explored in depth in another paper coming very soon!

We found 2 metabolic differences in the anterior cingulate cortex (the brain's interoception hub):

1. Elevated Lactate (rest/post-ex) in pwMS.

2. Impaired Creatine Response post-fatiguing exercise vs. controls.

Both pointing to mitochondrial dysfunction in the ACC.
