Recently I started working with Germinate. They have a strong track-record with successful grants: the people they worked with secured more than €60M in funding. As competition increases for decreasing funds, optimising your proposal with an experienced editor can really help. Get in touch with us!
These last few years @germinatescience.bsky.social, we've had the pleasure of working with so many brilliant scientists. Supporting them to secure funding to undertake their ambitious and inspiring science has been a privilege. 1/n
At Germinate, over the last few years we have been increasingly focussed on helping our clients to strengthen their grant and fellowship applications to maximise their chances of securing funding to deliver their innovative science.

Vance accuses the UK of having a free speech problem while a list of banned words have been introduced by the US govt to “censor” scientific research. Erm… 🤨

And for comparison, as a Deputy (managing) editor at Science, I worked 60 hours a week for <$100K a year. The staff who actually put the journal together to make all this money for AAAS and to pay execs are not valued. Which is part of the reason I left and now freelance.
Since AAAS is a non-profit organization its IRS 990 form is publicly available. The 2023 form (the most recent one available) can be found at www.aaas.org/about/financ... . Selected salaries are listed on page 7.

The EiC compensation was $654,263, an increase of $24,603 (3.9%) over 2022.

Last week I gave a career pathways talk at the @cruk-ci.bsky.social, highlighting the lessons I have learned after 18 years working at @natureportfolio.bsky.social journals and @science.org. My conclusion, editors are generalists, creative, decisive, fair, and open-minded. It’s hard, but rewarding.

Editing isn’t about rewriting, it’s about coaching. It’s not about grammar, it’s about creating a sound scientific argument. An editor sees the problems and suggests solutions. After 18 years at Nature journals and Science, I am a freelance editor, working on papers, grants… www.biosciedit.co.uk
