Don’t get me started on the NYT ignoring Netflix movies that are playing in a NYC theater, publishing a review only when they appear on Netflix itself.

(This might be strictly an iPhone thing. They’ve generally been migrating search to right above the keyboard.)

Gotta love the Republicans complaining “Prop 4 empowered unelected activists to overrule Utah voters,” as if voters didn’t pass Prop 4 (and then apparently watch it get ignored by the legislature for years, haven’t been following this closely).

Hard to believe that I saw Nakadai in RAN at age 17, he continued to work steadily for the next 35 years, and RAN is *still* the most recent film I’ve seen him in (not counting a voice performance in TALE OF THE PRINCESS KAGUYA).

Well technically *this* was the first Japanese movie I ever saw. It was shown to my class in grade school. But I don’t really count it. youtu.be/uUzk5qnGnVk

Eh, unattributed reporting from a decidedly anti-centrist source. That piece itself throws any notion of journalistic objectivity out the window. (“Even when Schumer and centrist Democrats have been dealt a strong hand, these are the sort of players who would fold a royal flush.”)
November 10, 2025 at 5:56 AM
Correct. I do not believe that nobody would shiv Schumer were he the prime mover. But maybe there really is an omertà that’s never ever broken.
November 10, 2025 at 4:57 AM
Of course. But in this instance too many Senate Democrats are too furiously opposed to this CR for that ploy to be likely. It’s not just unpopular with the base. You think say Chris Murphy’s going along out of party loyalty?
November 10, 2025 at 4:53 AM
Because I don’t believe that all of the 39 Democratic Senators who oppose this CR are remaining silent out of party loyalty.

Fair to deem him ineffectual and call for his resignation on those grounds. But check my replies and you’ll see that there are people convinced that he gathered everyone and said “Okay, we’re gonna cave, I need to vote No, let’s figure out which 10 of you can take the heat.” Which I do not believe.

True!

I see.

Oh okay.

I’m no fan of Schumer but blaming him for this deal just feels like people not wanting to give up their favorite villain.

Review pending but this falls into both my “kids resent parent for not being there” blind spot and my general “directed by Joachim Trier, written by Trier & Eskil Vogt” blind spot.

One of a zillion things I disliked about SV. It’s a good joke—for a movie *way* broader than this one. Do I buy this famous director gifting his like 10 year old grandson with DVDs of IRREVERSIBLE and PIANO TEACHER? I do not.

I did laugh, though.
