Spent #ValentinesDay this year with my gf, visual novel, and delicious food

That led to me feeling disappointed in a few parts... until I went back and reread them. With a little clarity (thank you reading literacy God (pic related)), I realized those were actually some of the strongest moments in the game.

I kept reading, hoping for a better ending—for the characters, for myself. Yeah, it’s kind of stupid to look for salvation in a visual novel, but it’s true. When I first read it, I couldn’t help but project my own hopes onto the story.

This might be the most consistently well-written visual novel I’ve ever read. I never felt bored, not even once. Uh well maybe my hyperfixation kicked in at first (the gay tension were too HUGE), but the story really doesn’t let up, it’s straight fire from start to finish.

Even so, MAMIYA somehow manages to create an incredible atmosphere with just stock-freeware music complemented with its beautifully drawn CGs and sprites, also absolutely godlike writing. Honestly? I didn’t even miss the voice acting or a custom soundtrack.

It handles these themes with sensitivity and nuance, never trivializing them for the sake of plot progression. Instead, the characters’ struggles drive the narrative forward, making their pain and growth integral to the story.

I found MAMIYA on a whim, and I’m so glad I did because it ended up being one of the best—if not the best—visual novel I’ve ever read. In only 30 hours of playtime, way shorter than some of my favorite VNs, it managed to shackle my entire life completely.
