Right here is why I love @obsidianent.bsky.social - wondering across a planet and run across a guy with an animal antenna stapled onto his head. And he's scammed other soldiers into making his pet mantisaur the ranking officer. And it gracefully handles you already having the object of the quest. 😍

I hadn't seen a lot of discussion of it, but actually really enjoying @obsidianent.bsky.social doing something different with the main menu in Outer Worlds 2 and turning it into a conversation with Moon Man. It's hard to make menus fun, and this seems the best example I've seen.

Ah, I see Ancestry finally updated their "DNA Origins" info again. Having a well-built out tree over decades, it's always interesting to see what they get right and what they get wrong.
Also, that's a lot of colors to basically say "Yes, you're a very, very white boy"

Picked up an ebook version of Asimov's 'The Gods Themselves' from 1972 for a reread and was struck by the opening page. Damn, he nailed it, didn't he? 😕

More Andromeda weirdness. Don't give one of your NPCs a cloak if you can't stop it from clipping into his clothes. And evidently sometimes your NPCs are ghosts that you can see the plant life through. 🤷♂️

Throw in some so-so writing, bad voice direction, and baffling choices regarding gameplay, and this is going to be a bit of a slog. The trilogy was far from perfect, but it was sorta cohesive in its dysfunction. This is just sort of all over the place. I'm happy w/ my created character at least.

After my Legacy Edition replay, finally cracked the seal on Mass Effect: Andromeda. It came out in 2017, I didn't buy it until 2022 (thank you Steam sales!), and just installed it for the first time. It's…rough. The general graphic improvements are fine, but pretty glitchy. The controls are dumb.

@scottleibrand.bsky.social I was amused by running across this on Lemmy 😀 Did a double take and went "Wait, I know him!"

So bye for now Shepard. Despite the janky Mako, the interminable minigames, and the weak ending, you're still one of my favorite characters in any media.

And hands down, some of the best voice acting in any game ever. Even when silly, or over the top, the voice performances carry so much of the emotional impact of the game. No one would care about any of these characters without them - certainly no AI would be able to deliver these performances.

I mean it's not every game that has you fight your evil clone and swear vengeance because they messed with your space hamster. "She messed with my hamster, guys. Now it's personal." may be my favorite line in all three games.

Done w/ Mass Effect 3, ending my replay of the trilogy. They certainly didn't stick the landing, did they? Even played through all four options to remind myself of the different endings and they're all pretty weak. Still a masterpiece, even though flawed in places. Some of the best writing ever.

Planning on finishing up my Mass Effect 3 replay tonight. Probably could have finished it days ago, but especially with video games, I always drag my feet for the ending because I'm never ready for it. 😄 Meanwhile with a book, I'll sprint to the finish because I can't wait to get to the end.

And while I am sure things have been updated since then, the core functions are built on systems that are as old as I am. To put that in perspective, this was the type of terminal used to access Unimatic when it first launched.
Can't wait to find out someone asked ChatGPT or Co-Pilot to fix code 😆

Mass Effect 3 replay update: killed a reaper, ended a war, and saved both the Geth and the Quarians. I'm kind of a big deal 😆 (honestly this is probably the hardest thing to do in the game as it takes making certain choices over all three games).

Also, I'd forgotten how stupid the quest handling is in Mass Effect 3. Way to easy to have a quest ready to hand in, do a priority mission, and then lose the ability to turn in the other, totally unrelated quest. And absolutely no indication in the UI that's the case. Grrrrr. 😡

And that's how you play Infiltrator class in Mass Effect (And yes, whenever given the opportunity, I always play the Skyrim-esque "Sneaky Archer") 😆

It is fun replaying something like Mass Effect 3, which came out in 2012, and doing it at 4K. Seeing the detail in a scene like this, including the personal photos someone on the team put in there, is always fun.

Continuing on with my Mass Effect re-playthrough, starting ME3 (Legendary Edition).
