My main reason for using IMDb is to check whether I’m watching Patrick Fischler or David Dastmalchian in something.

As a currant-, sultana- and raisin-dodger I’ve long been denied the joys of a hot cross bun, until the last few years, when supermarkets started offering alternatively flavoured options. I was so excited to buy these this morning, only to discover the small print on the rhubarb ones. Fuck sultanas.

We’ve not frozen them, but everything else is the first stages of how we always do our roasties. Parboil, drain and toss with semolina and seasoning, then lightly fry in duck/goose fat, then transfer to the oven along with some of the leftover fat. These were last night’s.

Two years ago, around this time, we were having our kitchen remodelled. This time around, it was time to redo the bathroom. When we moved in 19 years ago, we thought the bathroom looked pretty good, but tastes have changed in two decades, and it was all looking a bit tired.

It’s that time of year when I look back on a great week in the Canaries with our closest friends, and wonder why I always come back coughing like a Dickensian orphan with tuberculosis.
