The headline here should say:

"Number of private schools increases by 35 - showing fears of an exodus to be unfounded".

(The increase is mentioned way down the article.)

Chloe Kelly thought about giving up football this year.

Then she signed for Arsenal.

Second book I've re-read this year. A brilliant, fantastical, dream-like story and a fascinating allegory for trauma, abusive manipulation, and a mind cut totally adrift. A distant descendant of The Tempest I think.

And even if we can't quite call 2025-era Jarvis or the crowd at Glasto "common", the feeling of being screwed over by those with the money and knowledge to do a lot more than just commodifying your misery is as relevant today as ever.
People underestimate the sheer, lucid, righteous fury of Common People. One of the angriest songs ever to be a big hit.

Labour has a whopping great majority and four years left to turn this country around.

They should be setting the agenda, not chasing about trying to placate voters of a party with five MPs who will never vote for them anyway.

It's not only disappointing... it's embarrassing

Can confirm
The thing about Rome is, before you go, you think, wow, Rome, so cool, I’ve heard so much about it. But then you go and it’s even better than you thought and you actually do wander around thinking about art and beauty and divinity and death and time

MACBETH Act 1 Sc 1 l.3:

SECOND WITCH
When the hurly-burly’s done,
When the battle’s lost and won.

The truly significant event of this day will come *after* the noise and chaos of battle has finished. The juxtaposition of "lost" and "won" is important here too.

Re LLMs writing term papers: the other day I saw someone say that using LLMs to write is like bringing a forklift to the gym. It's not that the weights need to go up; it's that you need to do the lifting. The doing of the work is the result, not the paper being done or the weights having moved.

Let's read Macbeth.

Act 1 Sc 1 l.1:

FIRST WITCH
When shall we three meet again?
In thunder, lightning, or in rain?

The first lines of the play focus us immediately on the motif of TIME. The witches begin by looking to the future: immediately predicting and prophesying. 1/

Clothes shopping. I wonder if anyone else here in the 35-45 bracket understands the dilemma of a) not wanting to dress like I think I'm still in uni and b) not wanting to buy things my dad would wear. It's a tough balancing act.

I very rarely re-read books (who has time?!) but this was just as brilliant the second time round. A frontier adventure, a harrowing slice of a bloody historical period, a queer love story, a linguistic feast. 10/10.
