My partner’s dad & brother have one. The dad trusts it to keep him in a lane. He straddles & swerves into lanes ALL THE TIME (on residential streets & the freeway)
The brother (not as bad)trusted it’s sensors to tell him when to stop backing up into a parking spot & crashed into a wall.

Luckily this did not lead to me dropping out of school but it left its impact. It was one of many events that made me start to question so much of the United States.

They asked me to apologize for my behavior. I refused. I had nothing to apologize for.
They then looked up my record after suspending me & realized I was an honor roll student. Their tone shifted so quickly. they apologized saying they had already called my mom and it was already on my record.

While I was an honor roll student (not that this matters much) I was also one of the darker skinned students at my school.
I was talked to so disrespectfully for doing literally nothing to harm anyone. I just attempted to fend off a bully.

I remember when schools opened up after lockdown and the first school shooting happened within a week. I was so terrified for my niblings and what they might face going back into those buildings

I remember I had a crush on this one guy FOREVER and everyone knew. My friend finally asked him if he was into me and the guy said I was super cool but he didnt “date dark skinned girls.”

It then makes us darker skinned folks think we are unworthy of love or affection from people like us.
Even tho it has been close to 20 years since hs for me I still have not shaken off how unattractive I was made to feel in my adolescence.
