I’ve been making sloe gin for years … never seen quite so many sloes as right now… what a lovely end to summer

Every year around this time I get some wonderful quinces from my friend Lizzie. And every year I think that peeling them is like peeling rocks … but I’ve just cooked a bundle and the taste is so lovely and so unusual - as always … thank you Lizzie. What a treat.

Bird experts: we have a live (but damaged) pigeon in a sheltered part of the garden. Last week another pigeon came to exactly the same place to die. (Hit by a car? Damaged? A mate?) This one is hanging on. Any advice? Thoughts?
