We are richer than ever and there are only two countries that are both as rich per person and as populous as the UK: the US and Germany. While America might be richer, we live longer and equally happy lives – and even the safest US state has a higher homicide rate than London.

We are now further away from the theatrical release of Raiders of the Lost Ark (June 12, 1981) than it was from the year it takes place in (1936). We have reached the Indiana Jones event horizon.

Two days ago, the regime police in Georgia arrested a man over squeaking a chicken toy towards the police.

So, yesterday, many people brought these chickens to do the same.

I remember when there was a discussion on Twitter about Shein's manufacturing practices and some apologists invented all sorts of fantastical machinery and technology to avoid facing the more horrifying truth. Reminds me of this comedian's joke.

It's an obscene act of irresponsibility. Inward-looking, solipsistic, self-interested, playschool fucking bullshit.
Was any of last nights briefing from Number 10 done with the public in mind? Hard to think of a more perfect example of why so many people are now thinking, whatever the risks we may as well roll the dice on Reform/the Greens/someone else because it’s perma chaos as it is.

An astonishing number of people in the Labour party have forgotten that the modal Labour member is a socially concerned current or retired middle class public sector worker in their mid-50s who dislikes being referred to as 'cis' but also thinks you should respect people's pronouns.

There were only 2 of us working there, so I had to make every second count.

What we're witnessing with #Melissa is ultra rare in the history of known hurricanes in the Atlantic. This level of sustained intensity and feasting on every joule of ocean heat content without any real disruption is incredible.

Not hyperbole: Jamaica is facing a generational catastrophic event.

I sometimes wonder whether Kinnock would be better suited to politics today than in the 80s. His media advisors tried to squeeze out his warmth, humour, anger & willingness to speak his mind, whereas there's a hunger for those things now. Even the mass rally is back, & he's made for the podcast age.

Faintly amusing that the IFS' argument to Reeves on tax reform is basically: You're fucked either way, so you might as well do something decent for the country while you're taking all this pain www.reuters.com/world/uk/uks...
UK's Reeves should use budget to reform tax system, IFS says
British finance minister Rachel Reeves should use her budget in November to carry out a long overdue reform of the taxation system which could help her to raise more revenue while limiting the hit to the economy, a think tank said on Monday.

So an article about the government stifling free speech is a story of “success” and “efficacy” is it?
