We are not wise and not very often kind. And much can never be redeemed. Still, life has some possibility left. Perhaps this is its way of fighting back, that sometimes something happens better than all the riches or power in the world. It could be anything, very likely you notice it in the instant when love begins. Anyway, that's often the case. Anyway, whatever it is, don't be afraid of its plenty. Joy is not made to be a crumb.

Don't think single people get enough credit for doing life alone. Rent/mortgage is double, household responsibility and life admin is down to one person, you're your own emotional support, holidays are more expensive, you've to trap and transport human sacrifices for the solstice bonfire solo, etc.

Have you had coaching at work around a 'CSI' - 'concealable stigmatised identity' such as sexual orientation, illness, disability, neurodiversity, hidden ethnicity, class, parental status, gender identity, religion, etc?

An opportunity to participate in research about how coaching can help individuals with concealable stigmatised identities navigate inclusivity issues in the workplace. “Concealable stigmatised identity” (CSI) is a term used in literature to describe a part of a person' s identity which can be kept hidden from others, and which is socially stigmatized, devalued and negatively stereotyped. Examples include sexual orientation, illness, disability, neurodiversity, hidden ethnicity, class, parental status, gender identity, religion. The research will use the term ‘CSI’ because it is used in the literature, it is not intended to label individuals. Concealing information to avoid stigma can interfere with a person’s ability to authentically be themselves, contrasting with rhetoric about bringing one’s whole self to work. Coaching for diversity has focused on visible characteristics, and the aim of this research is to explore how coaching can help people with CSIs navigate inclusivity challenges they may face in the workplace. This research hopes to add to professional practice by providing coaches and coach educators with insights, in this under-researched area, on how to work with individuals with CSIs in the workplace, and on a broader level potentially contribute to workplace inclusivity. You may be internal or external to the organisation. The coaching did not have to be specifically for an individual’s CSI, but your coachee would have discussed their CSI and its workplace impact with you. What does taking part involve? Taking part involves participating in a 60-90 minute interview by Zoom with Sophia Andeh between January and September 2024. All information shared within this research will be kept strictly confidential (subject to legal limitations). We Are Not Who They Think We Are: How Human Nature Matters In This Emergency Rebecca Solnit 04 Feb 2025 — 10 min read Welcome to the emergency--or rather Meditations in an Emergency, this newsletter, not the national emergency, which is of course very unwelcome. What's striking to me about all the things our morally and imaginatively impoverished billionaires, notably Musk and Trump, right now is: they do not expect or imagine or understand consequences. Any of them– their theory of change seems to be that they are going to do stuff and then it will be done. Like they're moving furniture around, like you and I and the trans and immigrant communities and federal workers and Canada and Mexico are just so many sofas and chairs that are going to sit where they place us. Like we're inanimate objects. Maybe everything is dead in the sad lonely worldview inside their head. Which would also explain their recalcitrance about climate and nature: if you see it as a collection of inert objects rather than an intricate living system in which what you do to any one part may affect the whole, you grant yourself more license to meddle. But today I'm here to talk about the human--and human nature, and how they misunderstand that too.
