Something the "so you think the law means anything now" doomers fail to grasp: the importance of buying time. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, has infinite resources and infinite capacity for managing complexity.

Make your opponent work. Make their every decision complex and their every move costly.

I realize the irony of saying this hear, but I can’t help be warm to the idea that humanity in general (and America for sure) would be best served by the elimination of social media and 24 hour news networks.
And yes, I can feel the curmudgeonliness flowing through me…
Now get off my lawn!!

Guess I shouldn’t be surprised to see Mahomes getting the same BS preferential treatment from the refs like Brady used to get.

Currently finding it hard to maintain a belief that, “…the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends towards justice.” L
Just me? Maybe I just need more sleep.

Really, the continued existence of “Red Squad” at Starfleet Academy is a glaring failure of the institution. Getting into Red Squad seems to be overly subjective, and members have repeatedly displayed a penchant for excessive ego and hubris leading to poor decision making and lost lives.

It’s 2025

Marty McFly would have traveled in the DeLorean all the way back to 1995

The Wonder Years would be a TV series set in the halcyon days of 2005

Dazed and Confused would be a period piece about 2008, the year we first elected Barack Obama

$16 billion was spent in the last election.

Enough to eradicate world hunger. Twice over.

Our elections now feel like auctions. A contest to corral the most billionaires.

Citizens United put us on the fast track to an oligarchy.

For us to find our way back, it has to be undone.

I realize, as a Star Trek fan, that a lot of the computer interactions in the show would be enabled by what is trying to be done with AI today. It’s just that the majority of the top people involved with AI development are the slimiest, used car salesmen sludge of humanity, and I do not trust them.

American healthcare is insanely expensive because of all the middle men scrapping every penny they can out of the system. Insurance should not be for profit or publicity traded. Pharmacy benefits managers should not exist.

Six decades later, Star Trek may still be the only franchise based on the ideas that diversity is strength, justice is the measure of civilization, bounty is to be shared, peace is worth the price, and all these things can be achieved.

We need more shows that look ahead and find goodness.

The usual suspects are out there yelling "There are 23 million government workers! Fire most of them!" No awareness that most work for local governments, and most of *them* are schoolteachers. Federal employment hasn't grown since the 1950s

Went to a candidate forum my employer’s PAC had when Sullivan first ran. It was blatantly obvious then that there was no “there” there.
Responding to a question he rambled for several minutes until it became obvious even he couldn’t remember what he was talking about. Puppet operated by others.

Sorry, I guess I’m a bit slow on the uptake. I get it now. The cabinet appointments are TV personalities and the like because they are the dog & pony show. The yes-men who do what they’re told and appear on camera. It will be the Project 2025 types appointed under them that will do the real damage.
