It seems everyone is trying to relieve the burden of cash from the already-too-thin wallets of writers. How about giving writers something just for helping other writers? If that interests you, join us today for more. #MSWL #amquerying #WritingCommunity

At our weekly writer's group, we offer an antidote to the deliberately misleading methods and approaches of #MSWL and #Amquerying - a true knowledge base. It's FREE and takes place reliably every Thursday afternoon in a Skype chat. Here's the link: join.skype.com/myjOk982dyTH Everyone is welcome.

Because of this, I run a totally FREE writer's group every Thursday to supply writers with a real knowledge base about the publishing industry and its business realities. In addition to that, we teach how to pitch novels, how to write pitches, English comp for those who need it and screenwriting.

The worst part of it isn't how they snow you as to how to present your work to get represented (querying is a thing of the past), but that they want your money to "educate" you - groom you - to take more of it. Never your book. They want you to think it's acceptable to charge you money. IT IS NOT.

To follow up: MOST of the agents soliciting your work aren't really agents. They don't make a living selling manuscripts to publishers. Some, who work at semi-legit "boutique" agencies are interns who've never sold anything. Others are P/T with few sales. Many are just frauds. #MSWL #amquerying

I seem tough and obstreperous, especially toward literary agents, but after decades in publishing where I've held just about every job and have done agency work, I'm tired of seeing naive writers taken advantage of by charlatans. I advocate for writers, not those who exploit them. #MSWL #amquerying

Anyone who remembers the absolute shtshow of Red Sofa Literary should be laughing their asses off not only at this post - but at the seamy, dodgy, scuzzy comeback attempt. It's amazing how many crypto-agents like these think you're stupid, compromised, brainwashed sheep - or is it?

Hey - at least she finally made a sale. (Best Sellers Rank: #131,454) I'm amazed the malapropish Heymont and Tobias manage to stay in business. Pro Tip: Any agent soliciting slush from social media is a loser. QED.

I already do, Tommy. It's a bunch of hot air, like dear old A.M. Rose. (Best Sellers Rank: #131,454) Don't give up your day job. It's a pathetic tell when the so-called agent has to use a proxy to do her dirty work for her. Typical, pathetic and a tautology. Your squib reveals a composition deficit.

Wish granted. Just make up an agency, call yourself an agent and start making #MSWL proclamations. Then you can start charging 40 bucks a head for webinars on writing queries and 1,000 bucks a head for boot camps and maybe 40-50 bucks for query analyses. Issue #MSWL decrees to your heart's content.

Nope. It's not. And it's also important to point out that, conservatively, more than half the agents posting aren't. So, anyone can and should post under #MSWL and #amquerying. I'd suggest that people who know very little about professional publishing refrain from posting to cut down on the noise.

There are worse, more struggling agencies than Tobias surviving on the fringe of literaryland - but you'd be hard pressed to find them. I love author agents who can sell their own dire tripe - but not yours. Having cratered at the Prospect agency, she's now not selling anything at Tobias.
