I feel like announcers are particularly hostile to this specific strategy (which has 100% airtight logic, not even really debatable) because their entire goal is to keep people watching for longer and when you miss on the first 2pc people tune out

I haven’t regularly kept up with mma in years but there’s nothing that shows the stagnation of the UFC than me seeing a headline in 2025 that Justin gaethje is getting another (interim) title shot. Like seriously they have no one new instead of the dude who had a billion miles of damage 5 years ago?
