when the worlds were last held in France, organisers fenced off the course and charged €10 to get in on the final day. They wanted the same the day before for the women's race, but there was a big hole in the fence which we went through instead.

also a health and safety/security incident waiting to happen for spectators, given the overcrowding/lack of room on the climb. Police made this worse by telling spectators on the first two streets to move and go where it was already overcrowded. Wonder if they will charge to access in future?

Whatever form, it needs the GC or, as in Sunday, it turns into a glorified club run. More radical solution: have the stage on 2nd Sunday in a North to South type tour

Ha! Yes there’s no pavement: airport have done their best to make pedestrian access almost impossible. Free bus is fairly regular though.

Theres a 1hr free waiting zone by the silverzone car park - you then take the bus to the terminal.

Most references to the essay say its in Mythologies, but its not included in the most widely available version of that book. Makes you wonder if those people referring to it really have read it.
