This piece (open access) by me/Josh/Alistair draws on data plus interviews with industry insiders to argue: aviation emissions pose a major threat to climate; none of proposed tech solutions are viable in next 30 years; SAFs are a hoax; CCS a Big-Oil scam.

Flight from reality: sustainable aviation, Jet Zero, and the technofix
This paper argues that rising aviation emissions, which are disproportionally driven by the wealthy, pose a serious threat to climate goals. Using the UK’s Jet Zero strategy as a case study, it exp...

Just out - another brilliant book by Carton & Malm.
It's a book for our era, in which everything is dying, and yet there's everything to play for.
It's a book for the movement. Invite Wim/Andreas to your local bookshop, trade union or YourParty conference, Green Party gathering, university, etc.

This, I co-wrote with Marianne Brown, argues the UK-EU trade deal - being negotiated this summer - should be used to close the border for soil imports/exports.
Keir Starmer's govt, ofc, will do the opposite.

Pot-plant trade is ‘hitchhiker pathway’ for invasive flatworms, say UK experts
Rise in sightings prompts call for ban on soil imports, to prevent entry of more species that eat earthworms and degrade soil

Proud to see that my undergraduate student Lana has summarised her brilliant dissertation - on the strategic crisis in Germany's Letzte Generation climate activist movement - as an article in The Ecologist.

It's wonderful to see reviews pouring in for Marianne's book. Today in The Observer; a lovely one in The Scotsman; and even the Torygraph grumblingly conceded it's an "elegant" read.
This interview in Shetland News imo gives the best sense of the book.

My former student, Yousef Al-Helou, shot many hours of footage of Gaza in the years before the genocide.

He has turned it into a film, to help preserve the memory of Gaza.

Sharing again, this time in The Ecologist.

The essay considers three types of climate-poliitical tipping point:- earth-systems (with catastrophic results), those of energy-economics (a distant dream), and "social tipping points" (yes, but how?)

All COPs are broken
COP29 fizzled out as catastrophe looms. Could a tipping point in political consciousness still stave off the worst?

This year the world smashes through 1.5 C, and the delegates at #COP29 seem oblivious.
This essay looks at tipping points -- those of earth-systems (catastrophic), those of energy-economics (a distant dream), and "social tipping points" (yes, but how?)

Glad to have seen Sireen Sawalha launch My Brother My Land: A Story from Palestine
Sireen's stories are captivating, gripping. A few had the audience in tears.
Her book is a window into life in occupied Palestine that everyone should be looking through.
A bonus: our tour of Palestine House. Amazing!

Horrifying [in972mag]
That the attacks are "intended to harm Palestinian civil society: to create a shock that will lead civilians to put pressure on Hamas,” is the exact definition of terrorism. Israel is committing a stated campaign of state terrorism.
