Excited to share a new chapter:
As of July 1st, I’ve joined @ki.se as an Assistant Professor and #NewPI!
The Monasterio Lab is officially up and running — we’ll study physiological circuits driving #salivaryglands and #GItract communication in health and disease.
Stay tuned for the science ahead!

When and how did our “two-hole” digestive tube first appear in evolution? Such a fascinating question, recently tackled in this preprint!
“Our results suggest that the bilaterian anus evolved from a male gonopore that came in contact with the digestive endoderm to form the posterior opening.” 🧪

Still buzzing after the Night Science workshop at KI — 6+ hours of creative thinking with @itaiyanai.bsky.social (#NightSciencepodcast)
Loved the deep dive into day science (structured, hypothesis-driven) vs night science (exploratory, intuitive). A brilliant way to rethink how we do science.

Our next stop?
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil—November 3–6, 2026!
We’re already hard at work curating an exceptional lineup of speakers, designing novel sessions, and planning an interactive meeting that maximizes networking opportunities for all participants. Stay tuned! 7/n

In 2019, @ejvillablanca.bsky.social and I launched the first OralGut conference in Chile. Our goal was simple but ambitious: to create a new meeting point for researchers working across the various barriers of the GI tract. 1/n

Just caught this—our work made the @natureportfolio.nature.com Protocols cover! 🔥
We’re rolling through the entire GI tract with a versatile technique to see how perturbations shake things up at a systems level. Next stop: mapping the circuits that connect GI compartments. Stay tuned!

Honored to present for the first time at @dunnschool.bsky.social, hosted by amazing @mucosalimmunology.bsky.social and @hausmannannika.bsky.social. A fantastic opportunity to share my scientific journey from the oral cavity to gut-to-oral axis and introducing my soon-to-launch lab at the @ki.se !

🚨More convincing evidence about the importance of validating transcriptomics-based conclusions at the protein level:
From human tissues, the majority of proteins found (3,088) are enriched at the protein but not RNA level.
