I think people are heavily influenced right now by his bad convention speech, but people have come back from those before.

(It sure was a puzzling speech though! In more relaxed settings he's affable and laid-back; what he was thinking bellowing every word I'll never know.)

Both. You'd think someone on the client side would have done the math but afaict everyone involved was super-cynical.

I'm sometimes skeptical of follow-the-money explanations -- people sincerely believe ridiculous things -- but they're solid for this sort of obviously useless propaganda.
