It was vet day today! We went in for routine care, but I could only manage two at a time, so I had two appointments -- first, Tamarind and Guapo, then Silverio and Diego. Luckily, I live only 5 minutes away from the vet clinic. #greyhound #galgo #sighthounds

This is the first year I've done this. I took a little ornament tree and hung all the ornaments I've made on it and put it in my office for Xmas decor.

SNOW! We're due to get 12-15 inches by tomorrow afternoon. ❄️❄️❄️❄️🌨️🌨️🌨️ This is Diego's first exposure to snow, I believe.

Just got Diego's Embark DNA results. I was very surprised. He's not 100% galgo, only 53%. The other 47%: greyhound. Furthermore, he shares enough DNA with Tamarind to be his half brother! So glad I sent another DNA sample to Washington State University to test for DPOH. Anyway, Diego is 100% loved.

He'd gone to another family with a cat for 3 weeks before adoption to see if he was cat friendly, but I'd had him up to that point. How strange that I'd walked into a random store in Chicago and run into someone who knew about my foster galgo! That's my story. Here's more dogs. #galgo #sighthounds

I could have bought them individually or as a pair and I truly did debate whether I should buy even one of them, let alone two, given their price tag. They had to be ordered and shipped from the warehouse since the store only had the window display. So anyway, here they are in my house 3 years later

I knew the statues would be pricey, so I did try to resist temptation. Really. But I went back to my hotel the same way and instead of walking by the store, I went in. Because of course I did. I asked whether they came only as a pair or if I could buy them singly. They were, indeed, expensive.

On the way to the restaurant, I walked by a Jonathan Adler store on Wells. I saw these. Of course I stood there on the street for half an hour just looking and then went to get some brunch. I thought I'd better take a different way back to the hotel, but, of course, I did not.

Does your local pet shelter have a pet food pantry? Ours does. You can donate bags and cans of dog and cat food for people who struggle to buy their pets food. If your local shelter does not have a pet food pantry, think about asking them to start one. Diego thinks it's a good idea!

Here's Diego acting goofy. He's very young. His passport says he's almost 3, but they tend to just make wild guesses at the shelter. I think he's barely 2. I won't ever know for sure but Embark does have an age test. #galgo #sighthounds

Barking at nothing! Last night was tough: Silverio peed in the hall around 3:00 a.m.; Tamarind, my #greyhound, barfed at 5:00 a.m.; Cano, who has had diarrhea for a week, had to go out twice in the middle of the night; and this one peed in the room around 4:30 a.m. I hope tonight is better! #galgo

My vet just called to tell me that Cano is positive for the DPOH gene. He said Cano "is recessive"--not sure what he meant, but I will talk to him sometime this week. I think he meant Cano is homozygous for the gene. Nonetheless, he will need pre-surgical treatment if he ever needs surgery. #galgo

I spent the day bonding with him. He's been somewhat aloof--no surprise given how overwhelmed he must feel after only 2 days in a real home. But this afternoon when I sat down next to him on the couch, he threw his front legs around my neck, and that did it! He's mine. His name is Diego. #galgo
