Although Britain has one of the highest levels of membership of environmental organisations in the world, it has little impact on our closeness to nature. Some interesting thoughts on why in this might be by Miles Richardson in @patrickbarkham.bsky.social's article.

Glad someone is talking sense about this very popular local venue. Yet again a knee-jerk reaction by a local authority to demolish. And Jocelyn doesn't even mention the embodied carbon aspect. Demolition would be a lose lose scenario.

Thanks Paloma, Andy, Amy, Finlay, Cormac, Ashleigh, Anna, Ray, Geoff, John and Glo. Without you it would not have happened!
Thanks very much to the impressive team of volunteers who guided over 600 students around the SEDA Green Careers Fair at @uofglasgow.bsky.social ensuring it was such as success.

Most careers fairs tend to promote only a narrow range of jobs. The SEDA Green Careers Fair will redress the balance by highlighting openings in regenerative farming, forestry, bioproducts, environmental NGOs, environmental law etc, all of which are growing sectors looking for recruits.

Remember all that fulminating in the billionaire press about "free speech" (ie their freedom to abuse Muslims, trans people etc with impunity)? Now that people are being arrested for speaking about an issue of the utmost gravity, the self-appointed guardians of liberty have fallen strangely silent.
It's utterly mad.

THEY WANT PEACE.
The police know they're not terrorists.
The government knows they're not terrorists.
Yet, on the Home Secretary's orders, they're being arrested under the Terrorism Act.

"Why is it that a tree never moves?"

Atul Shah's provocative and accessible book 'Organic Finance' opens with this powerful poem. Do read!

A thoroughly fascinating evening.

If I was to sum up I would say we need more grassroots initiatives to encourage community activities such as Bristol's Play Street Order; inclusion of intergenerational living in NPF4; and more multi generation cohousing projects.

Thanks to all involved!
“A coat hangs by another”: Thanks to all who made Radical Housing Conference Part 3 @archifringe.bsky.social such a success last night.

We were given a 360° view of intergenerational living and housing and how our culture might again embrace it.

Looking forward to chairing this event to try and understand why, in Scotland, why intergenerational living is not more common and why we don't value the benefits it can bring. I benefitted enormously from growing up in the same house as my grandparents.
Two days to go until Radical Housing Conference Scotland Part 2, in Augustine United Church, George IV Bridge, Edinburgh: 11 June, 6-9pm.

Final speakers confirmed — Julia Behrendt and Sehrish Azad will tell us about the pros and cons of intergenerational living, from first-hand experience.

We'd love to hear your views about intergenerational living – something mostly lost in the UK as we gravitate towards the nuclear family. Can architecture be part of the solution?

We were so lucky to have such incredible artist performing at the conference. Thank you Beth and Chris!
BBC Alba folk singer of the year 2022 and 2024 Beth Malcolm and poet Chris Powici reminded the Radical Housing Conference audience that houses aren’t just just bricks and mortar or investments but homes where people live, love and laugh. Thanks to Beth and Chris for your beautiful and moving pieces.
