I'm interested in all aspects of amateur radio. I operate on the HF bands and am always looking to work new DXCC entities. I'm an enthusiastic data contester.

Replacing a rubbish foot switch | QSO365
Cheap foot switches are rubbish, you can get a much better one for about twenty quid and five minutes with the soldering iron.

I've never used N1MM before but I need to take my RTTY contesting up a level and start working Assisted.

So I've got it set up like this for BARTG RTTY. To all you familiar with N1MM and data contesting, how does this look? Is it usable or will I find it frustrating? What's right, what's wrong?

Two instances of HamClock while I was contesting this afternoon.

One can never have too many Fair-rite clip on cores. Part numbers 0431164181 and 0431164281. Ordered from Mouser on Thursday and delivered today. I was expecting them to ship from the UK but they came from the USA. Good prices as well.

Come on data contesters - When someone asks you for your number, don't send the entire contest exchange again, have a macro available which sends the number and just the number, multiple times.
We don't want the entire exchange again, just the important bit.

Nothing's changed, Americans still don't really do PSK.

It's a real shame that Rapid never reopened their trade counter after Covid, it was always dead handy, being only a short drive away. I've finally had to buy some new soldering iron bits and I won't get them until Friday if I'm lucky. I could have just driven there tomorrow.

That'll do me.

I always thought I was within 100km of Charing Cross by about a quarter of a mile but I just looked at the map on the RSGB website and it’s showing me as less than 20m *outside* the circle. Not that I have any plans to transmit between 431 and 432MHz but it’s good to know that I can if I want.

All throughout Christmas Eve, Father Christmas was being plotted on HamClock. Here’s a timelapse of the day taken from my hamclock.co.uk site.

Merry Christmas all!

Really nice to see S21DX uploading to LoTW straight away. I had S2 on 20m from earlier this years so it's always good to pick up extra slots.

Wondering just how busy the bands were over the weekend? DXCluster spots and FTx activity are usually a good way to judge things. Take a look at the two timelapses for the 14th and 15th December here: hamclock.co.uk/archive/

I’m a big fan of HamClock and I’m pleased to be testing the next version which comes with the ability to upload your log adif file and then highlight new slots in the dxcluster/on the air panels. This is going to be great for easily seeing spots of new entities and band slots. #hamradio #hamclock

Called one station on 20m FT8 this morning, didn’t even make a CQ call and ended up with a nice run of JA stations. Does five people calling at the same time constitute a pileup? If so, I had one on the go for about twenty minutes!

Just running 80w to a folded dipole so I’m happy with this.
