The remote repository is a bare repository that resides on the same server. It's just a post-receive-hook script that moves files into place after every push.

It's not my dilemma. But coming from Scala and Kotlin, I'm just used to it and my Java code has a tendency to contain _a lot_ of final for local vars, which seems to confuse people judging from PR comments :D

I'm wondering about the same, maybe because then there would be multiple ways to express the same thing (final var vs. val). However, I still think it's a missed opportunity. It would put an end to the dilemma "I'd like to use final everywhere, but it looks so verbose and distracting, so I don't"
