It's also spitting in the faces of British voters, telling us they've no right to make up their own minds. We should simply follow whatever the Mail and the rest dictate. As a former national journalist I have to say I've never seen such shocking behaviour.

Large sections of the UK media have been trying to dethrone and delegitimise Labour ever since the UK electorate decided by a huge margin to trust them over the Tories. I have a number of issues with Labour but this is a scandal, a disgrace, and the work of foreign entities in the main.

Do consider becoming a member. It’s always a great read - and also independent local reporting is fundamental to the health of our politics and places. (I’ve been a longtime supporter and am a small investor.)
These are our six campaign pledges - the things we will do next year if we manage to add 1,000 new members. They were chosen by our readers because they’re things we believe will make Manchester better.

Share them and join the campaign 🙏

www.sheffieldtribune.co.uk/sometimes-it... I wrote last week about two villains and one hero in the battle between truth and lies. Well here’s another hero - the Sheffield Tribune, one of the Mill stable of independent news sites, had the courage to publish an important story despite legal threats..

Despite the shortage of cells, this man seriously merits a dank corner of whichever HMP can find one for him.
Shocking article in the Sheffield Tribune. A solicitor, Andrew Milne, buying up freeholds of houses and then making (false) threats to the leaseholders to bully them into buying the freehold at a huge premium.

We’ve made this investigation free to read because so many people in Sheffield are affected by this story.

Our journalists have been knocking on doors for weeks and we’ve had to employ lawyers because of the legal threats made against us.

We can only do this kind of journalism with your support.
“It broke my heart, that was my savings towards a new car,” one woman who paid Milne tens of thousands of pounds told us. “He has just wiped me out.”

Who is Andrew Milne - the solicitor sending "very aggressive" letters to Sheffield homeowners?

There must be a lot of decent journalists caught up in this wondering what to do. The Times has plenty but the paper's editor is clearly a Farage Fan boy and determined to hold the line. Never seen anything like it in my lifetime and I was on the Times under Murdoch for nearly ten years.

Opening this up in case anyone might be interested - Jason’s a very fine writer who, like many others, fell foul of the Unbound collapse.
Open question to agents: how many would be genuinely interested in helping an unagented ex-Unbound author find a new publisher for a book, given that all the work on it has really been done, it just needs a new home willing to actually promote it?

Incomparable is a word used too easily when someone dies but there isn’t anyone else to whom Tom Lehrer, who has died aged 97, could be compared (apart from to say that compared to Lehrer they were rubbish). Iconoclast, wit, verbal Gymnast, terrific musician. RIP.
