Kind of funny/interesting how all three of the Vancouver area's conventions are in Richmond, and very close to each other. Two of them even have the same venue!

Anyone who's familiar with Furizon (the italian furry convention) know what's the deal with their location? I'm a bit confused, furry cons lists this: furrycons.com/event/25993/... while Furizon's website notes a "Riverside" event in the mountains west of Milan. Are they two different events?

Anyone got any good suggestions for calendar apps that aren't Google Calendar? I want to have a source for sharing WHEN conventions are as well as WHERE they are, though the former is still very much the primary goal of this project.

Megaplex this year had a record of 10,038 attendees, making it the 4th most attended convention in the world. If you include the other 3 hotel conventions in the US during the same weekend, a total of 16,523 people attended furry conventions this year, which would still only be #4 in the world.

Updated the map after seeing a post on Reddit. Europe is a lot more accurate now, though I may need to look at North America and Asia more.

Furry Weekend LA canceled their event some few weeks before it was meant to happen. I briefly considered deleting it completely from the map, but I doubt it's the first furry con whose first iteration was canceled before it even happened. (1/?)

I'm thinking about adding another category for furry conventions. As furry conventions grow larger, it may be important to distinguish between giant boys (MFF, Anthrocon) with smaller but still medium-sized cons (LVFC, maybe Denfur) What would be a good attendance cutoff? 5,000? 3,000?

I'm going to be switching both of the Google MyMaps over to umap, which uses open street map. umap.openstreetmap.fr/en/

I'm adding years to all of the cons on my map... over time. There won't be information about age restrictions on it anymore, though, but that should be upfront enough in other sources (e.g. the con website, which is already linked on the map).

Looking at the Wikifur map, and I'm kind of surprised at how much better it is when it comes to talking about conventions in China. My map is more up-to-date in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, but a lot of the events not on wikifur's map are still on the wiki itself.

Working on updating the map & calendar right now. Instead of double-checking the events via looking at previous months I'm doing it geographically instead.

I found a potential google mymaps alternative in Felt.com. My only qualm is that after the free trial ends, I won't be able to import directly from Google MyMaps. Also, the imported layer looks... not ideal. Going to try to import by hand instead, which will take longer.

Question: anyone know of alternatives to Google MyMaps? It's hard for people who don't specifically have a Gmail to help with updating points, etc.

I think instead of making a MAP of furmeets I'll make a GUIDE for how to find local furmeets instead.
The map that used to have the furmeets also has camping conventions and bigger furmeets (e.g. dances) on the map as well, so the map/link will still be useful.

Note to self: think about putting in past venue dates for past venues to add more context instead of just a vague notion of a past venue.

I'm working on adding links to both the con's website and either their bluesky (if they have one) or their twitter (if they don't have a bluesky). This is for the main map and the calendar. I post both because the social media pages tend to be updated WAY more quickly and be more up-to-date.
