Are you stuck in the same problem I had, where you've got a video file on a PC, and want to stream it? I found some good browser plugins to play media, and then streamed chrome browser window to Chromecast...

If you're not already, look into using a SAX streaming parser, rather than a DOM one, make handling large files much more memory efficient (depending on the XML structure)
