I cook. I ramble. Mostly, to metal.

📍Philadelphia
I bought this. Clothes in regular stores are cuter here, but of course the likes of me don't have it easy to find anything (I'm an XL here and most stores won't carry anything that will fit me.)

It's Spain's national sport to shit on Calatrava, but you cannot not be stunned by the entire thing. I could come here every day.

It's fucking spectacular.

The last time I had plans and dressed up for Halloween (2015) it was as this literally character. I was stood up at 11:30pm in Suburbgatory, so I went nowhere but bed after taking this pic. #OnThisDay

I ate red mullet a la plancha. It's my favorite fish and almost always my first meal in my hometown. #FoodSky

Armani's My Way is tonight's fragrance and I'm back to re-reading Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre after dropping Toni Morrison's Beloved at the library today. I can't help but think about this exchange in a different book, every time.

Judiones - humongous, thicc silky white beans. The closest I have found here is butter beans and lima beans, but those have a very tough skin; they do look similar, but are only distant cousins.

Staying with dried peppers: pimientos choriceros ("chorizo-like") - I like to get a small jar of choricero paste, because the peppers themselves are sometimes harder to find in southern Spain. This is fabulous added to bean stews and a typical ingredient in northern fish stews.

Ñoras, a CRUCIAL ingredient for Levantine rices in paella that I am currently out of. These are not hot in the least, just supremely, intensely flavored. These are the most important ingredient in salmorreta, the sofrito that goes into rices in paella (not in Valencian paella though).

3. Good, and I mean GOOD, Cantabrian anchovies. I am followed by extreme food lovers, so I won't say "you've never tasted anything like it", because I'm sure many of you have. But if your only experience of anchovies is Cento from a tin: yeah, these are nothing like that.

2. Kikos (fried bbq corn, called "maicitos" or "elotitos" in other countries, which makes a lot more sense: that translates as "little corn kernels", whereas "kiko" is a pet name for Francisco). I bring a bag of this every time, I love this crap.

1. Hazelnut cream. It's like nutella minus the chocolate. A classic of my childhood; I'd like to bring this over to experiment with baking, because the cost of hazelnut paste or creams is so high.

Dinner is black chickpea and black tahini hummus, breadsticks, baby carrots, celery sticks. The heart wants what the heart wants. #FoodSky 🍜
