It wouldn’t surprise me if that was the case. D&D emerged out of to gaming so it feels appropriate for it yo return to that style of play at the tail end of a campaign.

I’d be shocked if D&D is relevant again in the new season, but I know that won’t stop guys like that.

From what I heard, the characters engaged in that sort of high level, wide influence stage, are usually not the characters you use to engage in “regular adventuring”.
Though I suppose you have a lot of leeway in how you want to run things at that point.
