As pointed out in this article, it will be many years before the full impact of this is felt (ie, liver cancer and hepatitis B-related deaths). There will be a spike in cases and the public will wonder how it happened and what current scapegoat they can blame it on.

CDC panel recommends delaying birth dose of hepatitis B vaccine

During the pandemic, when vaccination rates fell, SIDS rates rose.

This is because vaccines are not associated with SIDS.

Is there any real link between vaccines and SIDS?
Explore the facts behind SIDS and vaccines—studies consistently show no link between vaccines and SIDS, with some research even suggesting vaccines reduce SIDS risk by half.

WHOO HOO

(of course they should never have lost funding in the first place!)
The Institute of Museum & Library Services has restored all previously canceled federal grants to libraries, following a ruling by a federal judge

"Restoration of these grants is a massive win for libraries of all kinds in all states."

The EU officially blacklisted Russia as a high-risk country for money laundering and terrorism financing, breaking with the FATF’s hesitation. This move will force all financial institutions across the EU to increase scrutiny of any transactions involving Russia, further isolating Moscow financially

Let's go, Hochul! NY needs this too.
Gov. JB Pritzker signed a bill into law Tuesday to make Illinois the first state to issue vaccine recommendations independent of the CDC. Democrats believe Illinois should ensure healthcare regardless of decisions made by the federal government.

The impacts of this decrease in both the number and amount of NIH and NSF funding will be felt for generations, but props to the NIH and NSF program managers and support staff who got this many grants and this much funding out the door under very difficult circumstances.

My god, I love this man.
Kelly: He runs around on stage talking about lethality and the warrior ethos.. That’s not the message that should be coming from the Secretary of Defense… He runs around on a stage like he’s a 12 year old playing army. It’s embarrassing.

That’s a very attractive red shirt you’re wearing Admiral Bradley
If Admiral Bradley didn’t realize before that these cowards were setting him up to take the fall, he knows it now. Time to hire a good lawyer.

The trouble is that people, Americans, have no idea what immigration takes. "Granny did it right." Sure. She came to Ellis Island, they gave her a train ticket. It's effectively impossible to come here legally now. You can't do Ellis Island again but there has to be mutually beneficial ways.

Being among the first interrogated and ultimately fired by DOGE, I certainly felt we were facing the business end of a right-wing conspiracy theory 🧵
DOGE was not a money-saving effort. It was an effort to chase down and prove right-wing conspiracy theories. They went after USAID to prove conspiracy theories about foreign aid. Then they went after SSA to, again, pursue conspiracy theories about Dems paying "illegals" to vote. 1/2

JFC enough already
The CDC has turned off its vaccine search tool.

The vaccines.gov site now gives an error when you enter a valid zip code.

Also missing: the text saying “Vaccines can help you stay healthy”

Every year around Thanksgiving, I see tons of grad students post heartbreaking messages on social media about how their loved ones don’t understand or support their decision to study what seems like something pointless or silly.

Perhaps my American Scientist essay can help!

They were suspicious.

I pointed out the publication date.

It was from 2024.

As someone who works in an HIV vaccine research clinic and knows that Phase I trials are based on animal research, I am alarmed. As someone who is what used to be called an "anti-vivisectionist," I am warily pleased.

This is bad enough, but can we even trust any ICE-generated data? I suspect the 40% figure is low
NEW: ICE has finally released post-shutdown detention data. The latest data reveals that a full 40%(!) of people arrested in the interior and held in ICE detention have no criminal record; no criminal charges or prior convictions. That is up from just 4% when Trump took office.
