We’ve got so many levels of violation here - racism, misogyny, transphobia - just all of it. That is what this shit is meant to do: create vectors of harm that divide us up.

In terms of numbers at the elite level, the athletes most impacted by the hunt for “biological males” (again, 🤮) are global majority women. Often African. Not trans. But the hate they get is laced w transphobia. It’s a way of denying a person’s identity and humanity.

One way people express hate is by “revoking” a person’s gender - by telling a woman she is not a woman, for ex. It’s dehumanizing. It’s super scary.

A person can have a DSD and be cis or trans. It’s a medical condition and not an identity. Not everyone w a DSD identifies as intersex. And in case this needs to be said, you can also be a very masculine woman and be cis.

This has gone so mainstream that lots of people you know think it’s ok to call Caster Semenya that, and that it’s ok to use that term when talking about trans women. (It’s not.)

In this misogynist space women with DSDs and trans women are “biological males.”

This term - used by sporting governing bodies!! 🤮 - is a phantom menace used to stigmatize both trans and DSD athletes.

The policies invoked in that super shitty op-ed are designed to keep “biological males” out of sports.

“Gender eligibility” rules amplify discrimination and restrict access to sports to gender normative girls and women. The norms that tell us “this is a girl” are racist AF.
