All any worker wants is to be able to select the good restaurants they're willing to deliver from and exclude the bad restaurants that are a waste of time. But if workers could do that the whole system would collapse because there are restaurants no one wants to pick up at.

In other contexts this is a known and solved problem. Restaurants pool tips because if you're randomly assigning tables there's no way to know in advance which diners will tip high or low on any given night.

This very helpfully illuminates a basic problem with the platform assignment model: the company's income relies on getting orders from as many merchants as possible but the worker's income relies on getting order from well-functioning merchants (reducing wait-time, errors, shitty packaging, etc).
