Look I think we should look into what we are doing, in terms of government action, that makes having children more difficult.

2. Political instability caused by either the anxiety of the citizenry or diminished capacity of old and frail leaders (that can lead, as Russia demonstrates, to war)
3. Less innovation in all fields- actual declineof human civilization

Generally speaking, my worried are threefold:

1. The actual suffering caused TO aging countries that lose the ability to provide pensions
September 19, 2023 at 8:15 PM
Both? I am an American so I am primarily concerned with my own country, but yes, globally, aging populations disabilize all countries

Yes

What is the scenario where the population falls below 100 million lololol
September 19, 2023 at 7:34 PM
How so?
September 19, 2023 at 7:26 PM
Yes, but a particular form of genocide- they don't just kill them- they want to turn them (and their children) into Russians. Which means they want to not just eliminate the Ukrainian nation- they want to loot its future

The greater % of the people hitting retirement vs the % at working age the greater the burden on the latter and lesser the capital free for investment
September 19, 2023 at 2:58 PM
Why do you think they kidnap Ukrainian children and women of child-bearing age?
September 19, 2023 at 2:56 PM
Aged populations are less reasonable or hopeful, more focus on prejudice and grievance.

But besides that, it is well known official Russian policy to re-absorbed all the Russian speakers in the "near abroad" - by conquest if necessary

Which is why I support most form of help for large families- while being a capitalist.

In the long run, it would be the babies we fed that fund our retirement.
September 19, 2023 at 2:50 PM
Oh definitely no child deaths in the family, thank God

I was actually considered an outlier for getting married late (27, not by choice mind you).
September 19, 2023 at 2:45 PM
Well all my siblings, cousins, 2nd cousins etc were married and started having kids themselves in their 20s so there is that
September 19, 2023 at 2:41 PM
Like if you want to look at the politics of a somewhat developed country w/ an aging population and still sizeable military? That's Russia
September 19, 2023 at 2:40 PM
Not really?
These economies rely on innovation. People grow less innovative as they grow older. And when their economies shrink (and pensions are overburdened) they still have the capacity to take out their anger at the world
September 19, 2023 at 2:39 PM
Maybe it's just my religious upbringing, but I grew up with everyone I know having, on average, 3+ siblings
September 19, 2023 at 2:38 PM
That's some strong language
