Just paint and be free.
Azalea for as long as she is still CC legal. Then probably Riptide!

I use it to keep my notes about secrets of the world hidden as well as maps. Seeing those as players would ruin the fun of exploration.

But other than that I roll in the open most of the time and some systems don't have the GM roll at all which I like.

So I only use like half a screen the side.

Those highlights really make the map pop. 😍

Great choice.

BTW you can and probably should the creation method for other games. Ive done so and it worked great.

First of all thank you. Secondly it's not too difficult to do on dotted paper.

I looked at several osr map artists for some tips and tricks and it worked really well from the start.

I tried krita and gimp so far. I think I might just need to get gud with those tools.

Thank you! 😊

I use pencil on dotted paper to sketch it out. Then micron ink pens of different sizes to do the outlines and some grey markers for shading.

Then I scan them and edit them a bit to look sharper. But that last step isn't very refined yet.

Literally 4D chess.

I mean, I've GMed at cons and the like for groups of total strangers. 6 people on a smaller table setup is already getting pretty challenging.

But 11 on a kings dining hall setup is just something else. Even with clear expectations and rules. 😁

Wow that's a huge table and group. Not sure I could manage that but good to hear you had a blast!

On the other hand I still am stuck with GMing a bit of 5e dnd. It grew historically and people have nostalgia for dnd. I do too but I am ready to move on after this last campaign.

It's the same thing. There are arguably better and more modern rules available for cheaper.

As someone who came into tabletop war games without having played a by GW games, it made zero sense to me why it's the most popular game still.

The rules are OK, but not easily available.

The models are great, but insanely expensive. There are equal quality minis from other brands but cheaper.

Blades in the Dark.
Reading the book made me a better GM.
The game is designed so well with intent and purpose in each mechanic. All the decisions and reasons behind them are explained in a way that resonated with me.

It didn't even lead to me running BitD a lot. But it influenced all my games.
