At the end of the play, Potter is still technically the most wealthy man in town, but as it is remarked, George is the richest, because he put capital to work to better those around him. We live in Pottersville. I wonder if we can ever build Bedford Falls back.

The sub-plot of Mr. Martini, whom George helped build his first home and whom Potter referred to as a “Garlic eater” could not illustrate it better.

Potter always saw capital as a path to individual power and self-enrichment. The Baileys saw capital as something that could be employed cooperatively to better the lives of working people, including immigrants.

But since the speaker refuses to being the house back to DC because it would mean an unavoidable vote on release of the Epstein files, they can’t reopen the government even if they wanted to. In previous shutdowns, congress passed bipartisan legislation to pay the military and hunger programs.

1. There are contingency funds the president can use to pay benefits. This is what has happened in every #shutdown before. This is a choice by the president.
