This was me well into the 2000’s. I finally got a “real career job” that I had been avoiding because it would interfere with my musical endeavors in 2015, and if I hadn’t, I probably still wouldn’t have insurance, and I’m currently fighting cancer, so… yeah.

Not me, but a local musician friend. I know a lot of musicians, and it’s not at all uncommon for them to just do without insurance and hope for the best. My employer based insurance is something like $110/month (very fortunate). If I had to pay this much, I’d have to do without too.
