I just took the oath to become a U.S. Senator. I’m overwhelmed by this chance to serve at a moment of profound anxiety about what comes next for our nation. I promise I won’t lose myself along the way. I won’t let the job change me, instead I will work to change the job. THREAD

“‘I mean, look, I basically grew up there, an avid Phillies and Eagles fan, now taking my kids to Sixers games,’ Kim said in an interview last week in Washington.”

Folks…….we have a Philly senator.
Andy Kim on his Philly-area roots, Trump’s cabinet and Democrats’ next steps
Andy Kim may be the senator-elect from New Jersey, but his sports allegiances and South Jersey home base might make him the chamber's Philly-est member.

It was an honor to work for my Senator, Bob Casey.

A consummate public servant, Sen. Casey worked every day to make our commonwealth and country better.

Team Casey has earned a quick rest, regroup, and drink (maybe plural). Then we will continue his good work.

With caveats as to the word “fun,” one of the things I regularly say to student organizers that seems to have the biggest immediate impact is “it’s got to be more fun to be in the movement than to not be in the movement.”

That’s right. I just introduced legislation requiring Director of National intelligence and other national security positions to disclose any finance transactions with foreign governments. We wrote this bill well before Nov 5. This is not about politics, it’s about our security.

This happened in 2016, too. For the first few weeks after the election, Democrats were freaked out and rudderless. Then the grassroots showed up, let 'em have it, and Dems got in formation.

Is it incredibly annoying that we have to do this again? Yes! Is it completely doable? Also yes!
52 Dems voting for this bill down to 15 (many of them the worst members of the Dem caucus) is actually pretty great progress and a promising sign for our efforts to pressure Dems

a lot of them appear adrift on how to respond to the results of the election and we can, apparently, harden some spines
The nonprofit shutdown bill is on the Senate - where the assumption is it will die quietly, ending the matter for this Congress.

Which of course only lasts until January.

Worth noting last week 52 Democrats voted for it. Our calls made a significant difference.

Currently sitting in a room of 50+ Democratic campaign operatives who dropped everything to come to Pennsylvania and make sure we count every single vote.

It's making me pretty damn proud of those who pick this line of work — people who show up and get to work while many others clutch their pearls.

This is the energy we need now from elected Dems.

MAGA Lite is not a winning strategy. It is not smart positioning, it’s cowardice.

The brand that voters want from Dems is one with strong values, clear priorities and a backbone.
WOW.

Democrats need to understand that if you're not willing to fight for people, you can't expect them to show up for you come election time. Throw the fucking norms away and get into good trouble. If you ever gave a shit about John Lewis, show us.
