This suddenly makes me think that in countries with low reading comprehension (now nearly all of them, definitely including the USA), criticising characters like they're real people in a true crime 'guilty or not - y/n' series replaces genuine critique/theory/analysis, among other things.

Techbros compare us, A/I haters, to obscurantist luddites opposed to progress.

Asbestos was progress at the time. Look at it now.

A/I is the current Asbestos progress of our time.

Me to dentist: My pain threshold is pretty good but my teeth are tiny little babies thanks to the TMJ
Dentist, having heard about my recent medical history because it's actually relevant to why my saliva production is fucked: Actually it would just be nice if you had less pain overall
Me: ...huh

The appointment hydra struck again! Went to dentist, dentist said 'it's probably not this thing but it could definitely be this thing, make an appointment with this specialist to sort it out.'

Like, I do enjoy that specialist, but he's expensive and *cries in appointments*

My dentist is in the same complex as Toby’s vet and it’s so funny the way he’s like ‘oh god oh god’ when we pull in and then he’s like ‘oh thank god oh thank god’ when I get out of the car and Glen drives off with him in the back

Don’t worry, Tobermory, it’s my turn today.

I thought it would be fun to count how many appointments I've attended this year, then realised how thoroughly depressing it would be because I'm pretty sure it's over 80. There have been over 15 in the last two weeks alone.

Er, so, not doing that, actually.

(I'm about to leave for another)

how did i go so long not knowing we were literally teaching people to read wrong. i knew something wasn't right but jesus christ www.apmreports.org/episode/2019...
How a flawed idea is teaching millions of kids to be poor readers
For decades, schools have taught children the strategies of struggling readers, using a theory about reading that cognitive scientists have repeatedly debunked. And many teachers and parents don't kno...

So Chronically Offline Glen who has heard my rants about purity wank over the years, only this week found out anti was short for 'anti-shipper' and

Glen: Wait what?
Me: Wait what?
Glen: ...
Me: What...did you think it stood for?
Glen: Anti common-sense

Yeah. Truly.

Can we start saying "a person's reality shapes how fiction affects them"? Everyone responds to the same media differently and it is not a universal experience. MANY things influence how a person reacts to & interprets media such as how they're raised, mental health, education, religion, & culture.🧵

Watching the '10 foot rule' be treated like a dystopian event is um, interesting. Anyway I've had to talk about it in therapy because it kind of socially broke me and now my mask is basically the 10 foot rule in public, which is not good for self-advocating for my own comfort, which is bad actually.

Oh it’s the Toys R Us ‘10 foot rule’ that I remember having to learn and do back in the mid 90s that kind of broke me at the age of 14 and was militaristically enforced. Fun.
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.
Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.

This is huge news in @cameronwilson.bsky.social's @thesizzle.com.au- Microsoft is being forced by the Aus regulator refund all the ultra-dodgy AI plan pushing it was doing for Office 365

Wild that other regions aren't also using regulatory power to punish Microsoft

Centrelink just sent me a push notification saying it wants me to uploaded requested documents for Jobseeker and my Disability Pension.

Fun fact, it hasn't requested any documents.

And I'm not on Jobseeker.

I *am* on Disability, but they haven't said what they needed 🙃
