Congresswoman Valerie Foushee
@foushee.house.gov
Proudly representing North Carolina's 4th Congressional District.
On this day in 1865, the 13th amendment was ratified, formally ending slavery in the United States.

Today, we remember this first step in the long fight for equality, and we must continue to reject every attempt to erase this shameful chapter of American history.

70 years ago today, the Montgomery Bus Boycott began, a powerful and peaceful protest which was a foundational event for the civil rights movement.

We honor this historic moment by continuing the fight for true justice for all, today and every day.

It was a pleasure to see so many students in #NC04 participating in this year's Congressional App Challenge!

Thank you to the families and students who joined my awards reception, and congratulations to this year’s winners. I can’t wait to see how far this next generation of STEM leaders can go!

During my remarks as Ranking Member of the Space & Aeronautics Subcommittee, I compared China's growing space science plans to Trump's continued attempts to cut NASA funding.

For all the administration's talk of maintaining leadership in space, this clearly isn't a winning strategy.

Rising healthcare costs are hurting working families in North Carolina.

Our state deserves better.

I will never stop fighting to protect the ACA, expand Medicare and Medicaid coverage, and ensure that every American has access to the quality, affordable healthcare they need.

Republicans in DC are headed towards another shutdown while Republicans in North Carolina are focused on silencing American history, past and present.

The NC GOP should focus on finally passing a state budget instead of this harmful fearmongering and attempts to whitewash our school curriculums.

@bobbyscott.house.gov, @mcclellan.house.gov and I wrote to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission demanding an environmental report or termination of these projects to protect our communities. (2/2)

Today is #SmallBusinessSaturday! Show our local communities and small businesses in #NC04 the support they deserve by shopping small today and every day.

Wishing everyone in #NC04 and beyond a happy Thanksgiving! I hope you have a cheerful and restful holiday with your friends and family.

I had the pleasure of meeting with IBEW Local 553 to discuss how Congress can better prevent wage suppression and protect benefits for union electricians.

I'm always proud to work alongside unions to ensure they have the benefits and bargaining rights they deserve.

Delivery routes in #NC04 are operating with reduced fleets because USPS vehicles are going unrepaired for months, causing delays & putting the safety of carriers at risk.

I’m demanding information from USPS on how they plan to address the urgent safety concerns and the mounting backlog of repairs.

While I am relieved to hear that Border Patrol is leaving their operations North Carolina, I encourage all residents in the Fourth District to remain vigilant and continue to support and protect the safety of our neighbors and our communities. (1/2)

Today, I sat down with Mayor Leonardo Williams to discuss the ongoing Border Patrol and ICE activity in North Carolina.

Immigrants strengthen our communities, and we are committed to protecting our neighbors and ensuring that Durham remains a safe and welcoming place for all.

Today, I joined @demwomencaucus.bsky.social in honoring the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein.

We must release all the Epstein Files to deliver the full truth to the American people, bring justice to perpetrators, and give peace to survivors.

I am outraged by the continued and expanding deployment of U.S. Border Patrol and ICE agents in North Carolina. This is not law enforcement—it is state-sanctioned intimidation of our communities, and it cannot be tolerated.

I joined @adams.house.gov in opposing this unlawful deployment and am demanding DHS Secretary Noem and CBP Commissioner Scott to end this siege immediately. (2/2)

A Continuing Resolution that allows people to lose their healthcare isn't a 'clean bill'.

I voted against the GOP's budget bill that doesn't address rising healthcare costs and puts the healthcare of hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians at risk.

Today, I joined @housedemocrats.bsky.social in welcoming Republicans back from their 7-week paid vacation.

We've been in D.C. fighting to pass legislation that lowers the cost of living and the cost of healthcare, and we don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

Thank you to all the #NC04 veterans who joined my Congressional Veterans Briefing this week!

Our veterans have sacrificed so much to safeguard our democracy, and I'll never stop fighting to ensure they receive the benefits and government support they have earned and deserve.
November 12, 2025 at 4:23 PM
As the spouse of a veteran, I know firsthand the profound sacrifices our servicemembers make to protect our nation's freedom.

On #VeteransDay, we honor and celebrate their invaluable service to our country. Thank you today, and every day, for your courage, dedication, and sacrifice.

I joined former Congresswoman Eva Clayton and the Orange County Dept. of Aging at the Seymour Senior Center to discuss SNAP, the shutdown, and support for our seniors.

Protecting SNAP and the health of our seniors isn't just about keeping promises—it’s about strengthening our communities.

In Durham, a couple making $85,000 a year could see their monthly health care bill skyrocket from $574 to $2,560 next year.

Republicans are making a choice—and it’s costing working North Carolina families thousands.
November 6, 2025 at 6:02 PM
No one in America should see their healthcare costs rise by $25,000, but that's what families are facing here in North Carolina.

Still, House Republicans won't come to work to find a long-term solution to their health care crisis.
