It's the Elon Musk relativity effect; anybody appears less shitty when viewed in relation to Musk. Her point about him was valid but she's still a horrendous human being

2 prescriptions and the doctor's office visit were under $60 the time I needed medical help in Paris

Walked into a clinic in Chile, explained my symptoms in broken Spanish, they sent a sample to a lab, wrote a script for antibiotics, and I got the script filled. Whole thing took about 3 hours start to finish and cost like $80USD.

When my spouse was an exchange student in Edinburgh, she had to go to the pharmacy to get her insulin prescription filled. The pharmacist apologized profusely that, as a non-resident, she’d have to pay £10.

In the US it was easily $200 at the time.

Went to the ER in Germany and the doctor gave me a receipt "to give to your American insurance for reimbursement." My friend, that's not even my deductible, this is a souvenir you've given me.

If you're from the EU, there's even a thing called the EHIC, so if you end up in the ER in a different EU country you only have to pay what it would have cost at home.

Most are cheaper than my own country though.

Both of my kids were born in the UK. The first cost me a whopping £12 because he spent 5 days in the ICU and I therefore had to buy a multi-day parking pass. My daughter was cheaper. A couple day passes for about £4 each.

I had a similar experience with one additional kicker: the doctor apologized profusely at having to charge me 25 euros

Currently in Vietnam. Here's a pricelist for care at their excellent private hospital. Current exchange rate is about 40 USD dollars for 1 million VND.

a Spanish friend said she finds French healthcare way too expensive. in Spain, a gynecologist is free. in France, she said, it can cost up to 72 euros

(by this point I had expended all my bitter laughter & went straight to feeling dead inside 🪦)

another American friend broke a whole limb while in Paris. she needed medical care, obviously, x-rays, etc. was told—very gravely—that she’d have to pay 32 euros for the whole thing. 32 euros for all of it!!!!

Anyone wonder if every single dove John Woo ever used was accounted for? Like maybe some of them escaped and you could be passing by a descendant of a John Woo dove today.
