Memo: Do not ask “what’s your favourite 80s disaster” on a date.
Listening to Come on Pilgrim at irresponsible volume like I’m 18 again….

Beastie Boys - Sure Shot

Yeah, Sabotage was a tune and it had that video but this is the song that endures. RIP Adam Yauch.

Wanted to write about my recent trip to Berlin. Ended up babbling on about primary school playtimes and dead grandparents and pubs.

Wide Sargasso Sea. Made me a reader again after years of being cut adrift from everything.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Stanley Unwin wrote the words for the Spanish anthem and they were so horrified they kept it as an instrumental

I do feel it was a mistake for The Mars Volta to be given the gig of writing the national anthem of Vanuatu. “We’re Gonna Drown (Black Needles in Putrescent Babies)” is undeniably top notch songwriting but it’s not half awkward at an Olympic Ceremony.

The national anthem of Tajikistan is just Jack Douglas shouting "Whoops...wahey...gerroff...pardon?"

My favourite national anthem facts are that David Bowie had a hit with Chechenya’s and that Gabon’s was written by Gary Glitter. Also that Belize now use Denis by Blondie.

You know the part in Holy Grail where Michael Palin's character talks about all the castles he's built on top of swamps that you thought was just a bit of Python silliness?
(See attached thread)
i fully agree with this theory and in my actual field, british architectural history, The Problem is that Salisbury Cathedral is built on top of a lake and no i am not exaggerating
between this and the FSO Safer (another ship at serious risk of exploding) I’m convinced every field has its “yeah, this is the problem that keeps me up at night” and I’m on a quest to learn about all of them

Bizarre Inc - Such a feeling

Even now, with my clubbing years a dot on the horizon in the rear view mirror of life, just the initial surge of bass in this song makes my feet twitch like Sheridan Smith’s agent at the ITV ident.

Why? Because it would be embarrassing
Why will the government not publish Leung’s register of interests? I think the public deserves to know whether the Prime Minister’s closest adviser on AI owns shares in a company at the centre of such a huge debate about government regulation.

I’ve worked in housing/homelessness services for 20 years, and volunteer in a prison and I meet so many people like Craig. I cannot imagine what that sense of just being unloved - by your family - by the state, does to your soul. These children are worth so much more than they get
