When this happens to me, I assume it's a carryover from an ancient COBOL implementation that they're too terrified to ever replace. One airline, I forget which, mashes the "DR" prefix into my first and seconds names for some bonus nonsense.

Wow, interesting. I imagine it's for both the added CPU horsepower and for power islanding—to avoid paying the power cost for functionality you're not using. I can't help but feel it's a high-complexity solution, though.

While BeautifulSoup is nice to work with, I recently discovered the hq tool (HTML query, in analogy to jq). I found with a little bit of fiddling with its syntax, I could get shockingly far in scraping with just curl and hq. :what_gives_people_feelings_of_power_meme.jpg:
