6/ Therefore if its lobbyists can't tick the box, why should TotalEnergies be allowed to attend the UN climate talks in Brazil this November, aka COP30, which are working towards the goals of the Paris Agreement? It openly makes a mockery of the process.

5/ Now that a court has ruled that TotalEnergies' so-called "Paris-aligned" plan of being "net-zero emissions by 2050" is in fact greenwashing, and it's no longer able to claim such things, TotalEnergies is *not* "in full alignment" with "the goals and principles of the Paris Agreement"

4/ Thanks to years of hard work by the Kick Big Polluters Out campaign (which we're a member of), participants at this year's UN climate talks in Belém, Brazil, aka COP30, have to confirm if their participation is in "full alignment" with "the goal and principles of the Paris Agreement"

3/ "net-zero emissions by 2050" was the agreed goal of the Paris Agreement, signed at UN climate talks in 2015, aka COP21.
Since then, many fossil fuel companies, including Total, have adopted net zero plans while continuing with fossil fuel production, but have got away with it (until now).

2/ A three year battle by Fossil Free Politics member @amisdelaterre.org has seen the courts find French 🇫🇷 oil and gas major TotalEnergies guilty of greenwashing, in particular its narrative of reaching "net zero emissions by 20250".

French court convicts TotalEnergies of greenwashing over climate claims
Judges ruled on Thursday that the energy giant had misled consumers by overstating its carbon neutrality goals. The case could set a potential precedent for corporate climate advertising.

➕🚗🏭 new calculations show that if all new gas plants with CCS currently proposed by industry were to go ahead - even at a 90% capture rate - they could emit 2.4-5 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions annually, the same as adding 1.3-2.6 million petrol cars per year in the UK.

Great work! Unbelievable that the EU Commission denied any involvement. Aren't they funding South Africa's Just Energy Transition Partnership?
