The news is out! On Wednesday I found this unsuspecting looking bone under a nodule. We thought it was a baby mammoth scapula.

This morning we realised it was the jaw of a cave lion. An incredible team effort to expose, identify, and conserve this incredibly rare specimen 😍🦣🦁💗

I love a good castle.
I can thoroughly recommend the @nationaltrust.bsky.social guided tour, which includes the new Kings’ Tower observation platform at Corfe Castle.

This small circle of stones in the Valley of Stones is the remnants of a bronze or iron age house. The house itself would have been built out of wood, just using the stones for additional external support.

The Tupperware Tank in action. Yes it was a plastic tank.
They have been used since, inflatable types were trialled, but they just could not compete with the robustness, low cost and effectiveness of pipe fascines. Different vehicles have also carried them

Despite its many inaccuracies and the fact we were totally wrong to be there in the first place.
Still one of my all time favourite films.
ZULU was released 61 years ago today. Acclaimed as one of the great war movies and the film that catapulted the career of Michael Caine, the making of story is as epic as Rorke’s Drift…
