The changes to the enemy factions is also important. In the first game Earth is clearly the aggressor, but for 2 they changed it so that Earth is on the defensive. They're not cyborg human separatists, they're robots programmed to kill all humans.

I think the first Helldiver's game did it better. The switch to 3rd person in 2 makes you too attached to your diver, so they have to be cool. In the first game you're just controlling some little dude who's probably going to be crushed by a rock

As far as I remember, their stories don't interact except in tenuous lore ways. If DD2 seems more appealing there's no need to finish the first one.

You've said in interviews that there was always the idea for sequels about the inspector's other adventures, but after the work of finishing Obra Dinn's development you shelved the idea.
Any chance this heralds a return to the Insurance Adventure genre?
