I love my garden! The vibrant colours of viper's bugloss, poppies, ox-eyed daisies, corncockles. Plenty of bees but where are the butterflies? There are so few after the earlier peacocks and holly blues. @sussexwildlife.bsky.social @katebradbury.bsky.social

Can we find out cause of death? Anyone in Brighton? Or Sussex?
April 24, 2025 at 11:11 AM
Oh no, one of the buzzards has died. It looks recent. Is it a young one? It must be too early for this year. Could it have fallen out of the nest? I have forest school on Saturday so good to check the site first. Another dead bird in Ovingdean @katebradbury.bsky.social @sussexwildlife.bsky.social

4 dead herring gulls thrown carelessly by the side of the road. No sign of being run over. Poisoning? Can anyone take them to confirm? ///deduced.appealing.glare @sussexwildlife.bsky.social @wildjustice.bsky.social @katebradbury.bsky.social @rspbengland.bsky.social @hannahbournetaylor.bsky.social

Wow! 2 male blackbirds were having a proper fight on the ground just now then moved it into the hedge. I think the one on the shed roof has lost the territory

Came across this small hedge of blackthorn, fizzing with life, a frenzy of buzzing insects, and the delicate fragrance of the blossom was delightful. What a shame it was the only hedge for miles in the almost baron wasteland on that part of the South Downs. Some skylarks singing otherwise silence

Another lousy photo of a friendly young thrush who kept me company all pm, finding lots of worms in the leaf litter. Fingers crossed there'll be a thrush family this spring @sussexwildlife.bsky.social @nicwilson.bsky.social @katebradbury.bsky.social

A book that is full of honesty, humour, fear, anger, joy and yes, hope. Lots of reflecting my own experiences in the garden and beyond (my sparrow family here for generations), my first black redstart then-what are the chances- read about an encounter that evening!

It's the best way to start the day - there's even sand #brightonpebbles #brightonseaswimming

Exciting encounter with a black redstart that hung around the customers buying Christmas trees in Ovingdean. It seemed to enjoy the company, but it was probably hunting for titbits on the ground. What a beauty! @sussexwildlife.bsky.social @katebradbury.bsky.social

Just given my front garden wildlife meadow a bad haircut with the scythe. Is there a method of scything a good haircut? And perhaps this is good enough anyway... @katebradbury.bsky.social @sussexwildlife.bsky.social and anyone else who's interested in rewilding, gardening and ... scything
