It’s exceptionally cold here in south/west France. -4 on Thursday night. We’re mulching more plants and wrapping the terracotta pots in bubble wrap. It’s not easy to keep warm.

In South-West France we are in the midst of a rainy season. It’s gloomy and rains day after day, week after week. Some would be so grateful for this, wouldn’t they?

We watched ‘The Leopard’ on Netflix. Then my son bought me the book for my birthday. It’s so beautifully written and translated. It’s immersive.

We’ve been watching ‘The Good Doctor’ on Netflix. We’re now mid- series 6. We’re addicts! There’s just a tad too much American sentimentality. It needs a Kurt Vonnegut injection. (So topical) but that doesn’t stop us watching it. So, recommendations for further addictions please!

I’m reading ‘After You’d Gone’ by Maggie O’Farrell, in fact I’ve almost finished reading it. I’d recommend it especially for the parent- son/ daughter depictions.

To my followers: we live in south-west France in a farming village, having moved here ten years ago from London. We have two rescue cats, three retired hens and various wild creatures in our garden. We are pescatarians and eat organic. I am an octogenarian but continue to work; I can’t imagine not.

The swallows are back and the smaller variety of bats. The larger variety will arrive later. My husband thought the barn roof was leaking only to realise that a bat was relieving itself. Welcome back!

I photographed this butterfly in Uruguay, while on vacation back home. There are similar species/subspecies from Mexico all the way south to Chile. “Mariposa ochenta” (eighty butterfly) is the common name in Uruguay. Don’t know if it has an English name.

Our spring garden. Now we have also narcissi and daffodils. The cranes are here for the spring and the sun is shining.

We had a small indie publishing company way back before the days of social media. We published dual language books for children based on folktales from their own oral traditions. Very successful until a bank crash and withdrawal of loans.

Two days ago, the cranes flew overhead, returning to our area of south-west France for the spring and summer. This is always a joyous time.

I’ve just seen a blue sky message and video of cranes escorting a young alligator back to her watering hole. She was crossing a busy road. Now I’ve lost it! Can you help please?

Having exhausted the children’s section, I was allowed access to the adult library. I could discover authors for myself - the treasure trove feeling described by Nicholas Tucker. I took my small children into a bookshop and let them choose.
