When Democrats take power again, people will expect them to fix it. But Democrats aren’t good at simply declaring victory over made up problems the way Trump is, so people will continue to blame them for the “bad economy”.

Maybe I'm naive, but I always figured that this was how this was going to end. Rs, famously ghouls, would not budge. They weren't going to win enough over (the amount they needed to is not talked about enough, it's a very high number!) and they weren't going to negotiate.

They would let this shutdown go until January 2027 if they could. Democrats, for all their faults, are slightly less willing to let regular people suffer so they can get a win. It’s a feature, not a bug.

Republicans don’t care about people on SNAP, they don’t care about people stranded after cancelled flights, or anyone else. They want the federal government to fail so they can say “our tax dollars aren’t getting you anything, let’s cut taxes!” for the billionth time.

There aren’t enough people commenting on the second image, which I think is the sadly accurate part: republicans WANT to shut down the federal government, and they love inflicting suffering. Every moment the government is shut down they are winning.

Until we have 66 Senate seats I kind of understand why they’re not talking about impeachment. But on the other hand, it’s not like they’re spending their time on other meaningful shit either.

Republicans have way more faith in the Democratic party’s ability to pass good laws than any Democratic voter does, which is kind of a strange irony.
