Maybe I'm naive, but I always figured that this was how this was going to end. Rs, famously ghouls, would not budge. They weren't going to win enough over (the amount they needed to is not talked about enough, it's a very high number!) and they weren't going to negotiate.

Not to rain on everyone’s “Shit on Democrats” parade, but what did you think the end game was? Republicans WANT the government shut down. They hate the federal government and its collapse has been the overarching goal of the conservative project since Reagan.

It’s crazy that the NYC mayoral election is tomorrow. Somehow I had it in my head that Cuomo vs Mamdani was just a permanent feature of the social media landscape.

All of my bluesky feed being so relieved and smug that the shooter was a groyper based on one uncorroborated tweet is so depressing. Did you learn nothing from the right wing people making assumptions as little as 12 hours ago?

My guess is that when they find the shooter we will discover that his politics are a bizarre melange of wackadoo nonsense that doesn’t fit neatly into the right or the left.
It really is so striking how much The Discourse operates untethered from…what we actually know. The killer is still at large! We have no idea who did it! Seems pretty important to get that sorted.

I think Tarantino’s last movie should be a second-rate Marvel. Perhaps a Hawkeye movie where due to a tragic accident Kate Bishop has to learn to shoot arrows with her feet.
