Why does it feel like you’re dropping after take-off? As the plane takes off + climbs, pilots reduce the climb rate & engine power for efficiency + noise. This double change creates a sensation of “dropping,” but the plane is still climbing steadily. It’s all about how your body perceives motion!

Thunderstorm dodging into Barbados this week. The hatched colour means clouds were below our level, but they were very active and climbing fast so we had to pick our way through them to keep the ride smooth! They are a force of nature, but look beautiful in daylight!

This was a few years back but still one of my most Interesting flights as a pilot. Landing a Boeing C17 into Bardufoss in Northern Norway in winter. The runway was a few feet below the packed snow and sand surface we landed on. Felt like a normal runway! Bloody chilly though!

Nice flight to BGI (Barbados) 8:25 mins on the A350. Bit of weather mid-atlantic to work through and avoid the worst of it to give the passengers a smooth ride! Aircraft Radar, accurate forecasting and up to the minute satellite pic helps a lot! Seatbelt loosely fastened at all times is key!
