I once had many lives and I was a lot of things. Now I'm just a boomer. I watch the sky. 120+ countries traveled around the Globe. Early fugitive from the platform formerly known as Twitter.

2/ I devoted 7 nights to this beautiful pair: two nights imaging at the wavelength of ionized hydrogen, two on oxygen, and for the very first time three nights on ionized sulphur emissions, for a total integration time of over 58 hours, then combining data into two different versions: ⬇️

1/ For my first fully narrowband project, processed in the Hubble palette, I chose another iconic target, one I had already tackled several times in past years, but always with more conventional gear.

So here I am again on the Heart and Soul Nebulae (IC1805 and IC1848)... ⬇️

1/ There are a few must-shoot targets for every astrophotographer and for the majority of us Andromeda is the first one we cut our teeth on, often following some random tutorial we stumbled across online. In my case it was literally my baptism into deep-sky imaging in 2021...⬇️

Ha and OIII completed. Tonight is the final stage: I’m starting with SII (and it’s the very first time I’ve ever captured data at this wavelength). 🔭

16 hours new data in narrowband (Ha) got last week with a cooled camera vs. 17 hours broadband data got in 2022 with my old reflex... a giant leap! And yet I have to add OIII and SII data... (if weather supports me...).

First step of a complete multi-band, work-in-progress project combining separate narrowband acquisitions in the Hα, OIII and SII emission lines: this image shows the hydrogen-alpha (Hα) red emission. This is also my first attempt at a full three-channel combination. 🔭

1/ NGC1491, the Fossil Footprint nebula, is a target I had already tried to photograph a couple of times, with very bad results, in 2022 and 2023, using an ordinary DSLR and a consumer zoom lens. This month I decided to pick the project up again from scratch.🔭

1/ Sh2-126, the Gecko Nebula in the Lacerta region, is a new project that kept me busy for a good couple of full weeks, once again fighting with a sky that was never really clear and mostly veiled by fog and thin banks of clouds drifting through all night long. 🔭

Cose che stanno venendo bene.

1/ While exploring new areas of the sky I had never focused on before, lately I’ve been aiming my setup at the Lacerta region, chasing some challenging targets. LBN438, the Lizard Pillar, took me 8 nights of broadband and narrowband imaging, almost 50 hours of total integration. 🔭

1/ The Flying Bat nebula (Sh2-129), hiding within it the famous and extremely elusive blue Squid (Ou4), has been my longest-running project so far, and the one I’ve spent the most nights on over the past three years.
At this point, a real case of astrophotographic stubbornness. 🔭
